The Process

01 | Getting to Know You

This is where we get to know all about you, your family, and the way you live in your home.

This phase begins with a discovery call to learn more about your goals. Once we determine we’re aligned, we’ll schedule a virtual meet & greet where you have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, review a sample presentation, discuss financial expectations and get a quick overview of my process.

Next, we’ll schedule an in-home kickoff meeting. which typically lasts about 90 minutes. We’ll walk your space, take detailed photos & measurements, gather more information on your scope, etc.

02 | Scope of Work

After our in-home kickoff, we’ll create a proposal of services for your approval. Using data from past projects we’ll provide you with a flat fee for design services. That’s right! We’ll never ask you to pay more for our custom design services beyond the initial quote. We believe this grounds our working relationship from the very beginning ensuring we’re on the same page moving forward. The proposal will also include fee structure, policies, and your contract.

03| Design Concept Phase

Now, the fun begins! We'll begin preparing your design concept to set the overall aesthetic and feel for your space. This helps to ensure we're in alignment before moving into developing the final design. During your concept meeting, we'll discuss a high-level estimate for your project, preliminary floor plans, review design boards, furniture selections, elevations, and initial samples (if applicable for your project). Any feedback you have at this time will be incorporated into the final design plan.

04 | Final Design Presentation

In this phase, we dig into the details by sourcing the specifics of your custom design plan. You'll enjoy an in-home presentation where you'll review the final floor plans, detailed estimates for any work I recommend, elevations, design boards, exact samples and swatches, specific furniture selections for each room, and all the details recommended to bring the design to life. You'll have an opportunity to provide feedback and request revisions (up to two) so everything is perfect before we move into implementation.

05 | Procurement & Project Management

During the procurement & project management phase the schedule of work is created and a million little details are being checked and double checked to make sure everything is moving according to plan.

Depending on the scope of work, this might include collaborating with your builder or team of trades, visiting the site to ensure the design plan is executed correctly, coordinating deliveries, or handling any issues that might arise. Weekly project update emails will keep you in the loop every step of the way.

06 | Installation

The day we've all been patiently awaiting; your installation day! Once your home is ready for soft furnishings, I'll coordinate the white glove delivery of your goods and be on-site to oversee the placement of all your furniture. Working alongside my trusted tradespeople I’ll ensure each and every piece is installed correctly.  All of the details will be handled - all you'll need to do is show up and enjoy your beautiful new space!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This can vary based on the size and scope of the project. The design phase is typically 8 weeks and then orders can take anywhere from 12-20 weeks, or longer. Cosmetic updates (like paint, wallpaper, adding trim) can be done while we wait for your orders to arrive, while larger renovations can take up to a year or more.

Occasionally there are delays caused by weather, vendor timelines, factory errors, and other unpredictable influences (like Covid-19) that are out of my control.

  • Because every home and client is so unique, I customize each contract to outline the scope of work and estimated hours and budget for each project. For full-service design, my clients typically have furnishing and project budgets beginning at $50,000. Design services are charged at a Flat Fee for the Design Phase based on the scope of work. Procurement & Project Management are charge at $200/hour.

  • I've created this process so you can enjoy the experience and say yes to a design you'll love with confidence, without the project taking over your life. During certain phases, I'll need more from you like during the research phase where I'm getting to know you and your style and at each presentation where I welcome your feedback (and excitement!). I always remind my clients to “trust the process”. I can envision how your room will look when it’s complete.

  • I love working with professional tradesmen and local artisans to create an interesting and beautiful space. The sky's the limit with access to such incredible talent.

I prefer to use professionals I have worked with on previous projects and can make recommendations if you need them. I'll work with my trusted trades to prepare estimates for your project and will oversee their work so you don't have to. If you already have a contractor, I'll be happy to collaborate with them throughout the process.
